MAPS-MD Issues Bulletin
(Web Site Update)
December, 1999
Faxing of Authorization Letters:
MAPS-MD recently initiated a new fax program, which allows us to fax provider authorization letters within 48 hours of the authorization being entered into the system. All providers were sent a blue registration form, which requested needed information about your organization to receive your authorization letters via the fax program. If you have not yet completed that form and returned it to MAPS-MD please do so as soon as possible (please click here to see the form). As you now receive the authorization letters much faster than the normal mail processing, beginning January 3, 2000, MAPS-MD will no longer give authorization numbers over the phone as a routine practice. The authorization numbers are on the authorization letters. We thank you, in advance, for your cooperation in this matter.
Unmanaged Visits for Consumers Changing Providers
When registering a consumer for service and MAPS-MD shows a possible duplication of service, four Unmanaged Visits will be authorized to cover the transition. When a provider receives the four Unmanaged Visits they should indicate on their authorization plan other providers the consumer may be seeing, or no longer seeing, so that the plan can be processed more efficiently.
The appropriate forms and instructions for Electronic Billing with MAPS-MD can be accessed, below. Should you have any questions regarding Electronic Billing, please contact:

Please note that it is no longer necessary to authorize Targeted Case Management Annual Assessments. It is now an implied authorization when case management is authorized. The assessment is not for evaluation purposes and the provider cannot bill for this unless they have received authorizations for targeted case management from the clinical information provided. The provider can reference the case management authorization when billing for the assessment.
Medlink Y2K Readiness Update:
Medlink has conducted an extensive review and test process of our systems at CareInsite and are ready for the Y2K rollover. We have decided to run one final certification test on the evening of Tuesday, December 12th, however.
As a result, the claim cut-off has been moved up a bit and export will occur a couple hours earlier on that day. Therefore, you can expect to receive your claim file earlier than usual on the 12th.
Additionally, the clearinghouse will be unavailable to providers to transmit claims after normal business hours on Tuesday. A message has been placed on the Messenger to advise providers of this. The clearinghouse will be available on the 13th, with no impact on the ability or timing of import or export.
Supported Employment Authorization:
Here is the current Supported Employment Authorization form. Please be sure to use this form when requesting supported employment authorization.
