MAPS-MD Issues Bulletin   March / April 1999

Nursing Home Psychiatric Consultations:

Effective February 1, 1999, physician consultations in a nursing home, for a Medicaid patient in immediate danger of hospitalization, may be authorized for limited number of therapy sessions by calling the MAPS-MD Clinical Line (800-888-1965). Independent psychiatrists, physician group practices, Outpatient Mental Health Centers, and HSCRC clinic may be authorized for these services. The only procedure codes allowed will be the standard outpatient psychiatry codes found in the Provider Manual (i.e.: 90801, 90862, etc.) Reimbursement will be at the current PMHS rate. Diagnoses restrictions will apply consistent with Medicaid Provider type.

Gray Zone Registration and Data Collection Worksheets DCW):

When sending in DCW's make sure to include current fax number on the DCW. If you do not have a fax number, please be sure to include your complete mailing address on the DCW.

If MAPS-MD is unable to return a completed DCW, it is the responsibility of the provider to check the Gray Zone Web Site (gzmd.com) for the most current information. It is recommended that the Gray Zone Web Site be used to verify current information at time of service in all circumstances. To access the Web Site, you must have a User ID and password, and these can be obtained by sending an e-mail to bbatwood@apshealthcare.com.

Treatment Plan and Authorizations:

If a patient has Medicare A & B there is no need to send MAPS-MD a Treatment Plan.

If a Treatment Plan or any correspondence is sent by fax or by mail it should not be done in both formats simultaneously, as this creates duplication of work for MAPS-MD and will slow down the turn around time for processing of treatment plans.
